UWSP Students Host Community Input Session for Research that will Assist the Marshfield Farmers Mark

The Marshfield Farmers Market Cooperative, with assistance from the Regional Farmers Market Coordinator, will be working with University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point students to explore options for a new summer market location. This capstone class in the conservation and community planning major will explore five different sites in the Marshfield area. Their project will consider the positives and negatives of each site, the number of vendors that can fit, amenities, and more to assist the Marshfield Farmers Market in making an educated decision.

“The exciting part about this student project is that it will offer an opportunity for the community to come and learn about the sites and give their input,” says Austin Holland, Assistant Professor at the University, mentoring the students on this project. The community input session will be held on Wednesday, March 3rd, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Second Street Community Center in the Drendel Room. This event is a drop-in when you can, open to the public, input session, and we hope to see vendors, community leaders, and customers alike show up and give feedback on the project based on what the students have learned.

“The summer market is currently located at the Festival Foods parking lot in Marshfield,” says Diana Lang, Marshfield Farmers Market Cooperative board chair. “It is a beloved location for many reasons, but we are excited to see what a different location could offer the vendors and our community!” The students and the market want to emphasize that this project is for exploratory purposes only and does not confirm a location change. Any decision to change locations would be put to vote for the members of the Marshfield Farmers Market Cooperative to decide as a group.

“It is so important for students to have the chance to work in the community and get real-world experiences,” Holland says, “This project is going to be a great benefit to the market, the students, and the Marshfield area community!”
