‘Manufacture Your Ride’ returns for year two

Young innovators build and take home custom scooters

Mid-State’s AMETA® Center is gearing up for the return of one of its most exciting youth programs, Manufacture Your Ride: Scooter Design Workshop, happening Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

Now in its second year, this hands-on camp invites young creators grades 6–8 to step into the world of design and manufacturing—and roll away with a custom-built scooter of their very own.

For just $35, participants will spend the day exploring how ideas become reality through a blend of mechanical design and precision machining. From concept to creation, campers will design, machine and assemble their own scooter—combining creativity, engineering and a whole lot of fun.

“This camp really brings mechanical design and precision machining together in a way kids can actually experience,” said Kerry Duckart, Precision Machining Technician instructor at Mid-State. “They’re not just watching—it’s hands-on from start to finish. By the end of the day, they’ve created something real, something they can ride, and that sense of accomplishment is pretty incredible.”

The one-day workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the AMETA Center, 5000 Coye Drive, Stevens Point. Throughout the day, students will:
  • Learn the fundamentals of the mechanical design process
  • Manufacture scooter components using state-of-the-art equipment
  • Assemble and customize their own scooter
  • Take home their finished ride
The program is proudly supported by local employers in mechanical design and precision machining, helping connect young learners to real-world career pathways.
