Delis Counseling Group Launches Wild Resilience: Outdoor Skills for Life’s Hard Stuff

New Wisconsin Rapids program pairs hands-on outdoor learning with group therapy, leading to small-group camping experiences in summer 2027.

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. — Learning to start a fire, pack a backpack, or navigate the dark can teach us something about handling life, too. Delis Counseling Group is launching Wild Resilience, a program that combines practical outdoor skills with group therapy to help participants explore confidence, connection, and coping with life’s challenges.

Beginning in January 2027, participants will learn outdoor skills while exploring the emotional challenges those skills reflect. Filtering water becomes a conversation about healthy boundaries. First aid opens the door to identifying what needs healing. Packing a backpack offers a way to examine the weight we carry, the support we need, and what we can let go.

The program welcomes people who are curious about the outdoors, including beginners who may feel intimidated by camping or unsure where to start. Participants do not need to arrive feeling fearless, experienced, or fully prepared.

Classes will run from January through May 2027, with two classes per month and two time options. Each class will last approximately two to three hours and include both outdoor instruction and a group therapy component. Monthly catch-up opportunities are also planned.

Topics include:

  • Facing darkness and fear of the unknown.

  • Building self-reliance through fire starting.

  • Practicing awareness and respect through Leave No Trace principles.

  • Exploring healing through first aid.

  • Building boundaries through water filtration.

  • Packing for balance, identifying support, and releasing what no longer serves us.

  • Connecting food, rest, and preparation with everyday well-being.

From June through September 2027, Wild Resilience will offer three-day camping trips for beginner and intermediate participants. Trips will be limited to six participants and will be sober experiences, with gear, food, and transportation provided. A gear loan closet will help reduce barriers to participation.

Classes are priced at $25 each. Camping trips are $200 for beginner trips and $250 for intermediate trips. The program is open to adults and youth ages 14 and older; participants under 18 must attend with an adult who is also enrolled.

Wild Resilience brings Delis Counseling Group’s direct, practical approach beyond the office, creating opportunities to practice skills, work through discomfort, and build connections through shared experiences.
